摘要｜Abstract
In this study, we investigate the impact of state-owned farms (SOF) on the creation and performance of farmer cooperatives that are voluntarily organized collectivization in agricultural production, utilizing firm registration data from 2007 to 2020 and State Administration of Tax Records from 2007 to 2016. Leveraging an exogenous policy shock of Reclamation-Local Integration that commenced in 2011, we find significant spillover effects from SOFs to farmer cooperatives in cropland regions. Specifically, SOFs lead to an increase in the formation of new farmer cooperatives and boost the income and profits of nearby farmer cooperatives. Agricultural machinery investment emerges as a crucial channel. No significant impact is detected in non-cropland regions, suggesting that the spillover effects happen only in crop farming due to scale economy.
